Diego Pablo Simeone is a former Argentinian footballer who has now become a coach. As a defensive midfielder he was the most capped player in the history of the Argentine national team at one point.

On 23 December 2011, Simeone was unveiled as the new coach of Atletico Madrid, succeeding Gregorio Manzano, who was sacked the day before after defeat by third-tier Albacete in the Copa del Rey.

His first game as Atletico manager was a 0–0 draw away to Manuel Pellegrini's Malaga.

His first season ended with the team winning the UEFA Europa League by beating Athletic Bilbao 3–0 in the final in Bucharest.
