Fawkes was a highly intelligent male phoenix, the companion and protector of Albus Dumbledore.

Fawkes was in Dumbledore's service for 59 years, until the Headmaster's death.

Fawkes was instrumental in helping Harry Potter defeat Salazar Slytherin's Basilisk.

His tears saved Harry's life after his arm was pierced by the basilisk's horn and its venom.
