Mew is one of Nintendo and Game Freak's fictional creature species appearing in the Pokémon media franchise created by Satoshi Tajiri.

Mew is a small, pink, Psychic-type Mythical Pokemon. He was added to Pokemon Red and Blue by his creator, Game Freak programmer Shigeki Morimoto, as a secret character.

As such, its presence has been surrounded by rumors and myths, which have contributed to the success of the Pokémon franchise. For years, Mew could not be obtained legitimately in games, except at Pokémon distribution events.
