After an earthquake in the city of Angel Grove, a group of five young friends find a robot named Alpha 5, which leads them to meet the galactic mage Zordon.

Chosen by Zordon to face evil in the form of the witch Rita Repulsa, they were each given a Power Morpher.

Trini Kwan, the Yellow Ranger, is an Asian American teenager with Chinese and Japanese heritage.

She is a martial arts expert and one of the other female representatives of the group.
