Episode One is the first in a series of games that reveal the aftermath of Half-Life 2 and launch a journey beyond City 17. It also includes two multiplayer games. Half Life 2 is not required. Episode One is the first in a planned trilogy of adventures expanding on the award-winning and best-selling Half-Life adventure.

New Source Engine technology was introduced in Episode One to support advanced artificial intelligence, new levels of graphics and character interaction. Players continue the revolutionary story that came to an explosive halt at the end of Half-Life 2.

Players once again assume the role of Gordon Freeman and the team with Alyx Vance fleeing the remains of an almost destroyed city and its empty streets. The action begins quickly, as the damage to the fortress has been done and Gordon and Alyx must lead the evacuation plan.

Previously unattachable enemies now stand in your way as you try to help Gordon and others escape the impending fortress explosion. Again using the Source technology and HDR lighting popularized by Half Life 2, Episode One aims to start the tradition of episodic content for Half Life fans.

Stepping into the dapper suit of Dr. Gordon Freeman, you face the immediate repercussions of your actions in City 17 and the Citadel. Join Alyx Vance and her robot, Dog, to once again aid the human resistance in their desperate fight against the totalitarian alien threat of the Combine.
