Yoshi is known as Mario's trusted companion throughout the plumber's adventures to save Princess Peach.

Yoshi was originally meant to be a type of Koopa, but eventually evolved into the design we all know and love today.

The carapace was transformed into a saddle for Mario to ride on, and given a more dinosaur-like outline.

Mario continues to be the image of Nintendo after so many years, and since the debut appearance of Yoshi, the green dinosaur is loved by everyone and has become a mainstay of the Mario franchise.
