In a world covered by Miasma, a floating castle is the last refuge for mankind. The earth is scarred with beasts moved by the plague, while the Welkin Castle is quarantined from the horrors below.

Lucien, a charismatic politician protected in the castle walls, discovers an old book in which they find out about examples, weapons that can turn into sentient soldiers. He joins his forces with Rowena, a reasoned rebellion to find a way to return to life to raise his son in life, and the two rejected a pact to overthrow the crazy tyrant that controls Welkin.
